Who is Steve DuBos?

Steve started off as a DJ in the Washington DC area for 10 years and began doing sound system planning and installation for bars and clubs nearly 10 years ago. He started working at Graffiti Audio-Video in 2000 and was quickly put in charge of their home theater section. The home theater display tied a plasma television into more than a dozen types of speakers. Steve's job was to make sure it all worked and could blow away the customers, so he learned to setup everything perfectly. In his spare time, he'd read the manuals and research the manufacturer websites for all the components. This position taught Steve the difference between just buying a television and components versus designing and building custom home theater systems.

Steve started doing custom installations in 2002 and by 2003 he was getting repeat business and referrals from enthusiastic customers. In addition to his full time position, he was working 30 hours per week building custom home theaters - and Home Theater Works was up and running. In early 2004, Steve moved the business to Massachusetts.

While selling systems at Graffiti, an installer nearly cost Steve a big sale through a botched installation. Steve intervened with the help and support of the owner of the company and salvaged the sale, reinforcing Steve's philosophy on customer service. For that reason, Steve's services come with his cell phone number and his 100% guarantee. Steve will fix any problems with systems installed by Home Theater Works over the phone or in person. If an error was made in the installation, the problem will be resolved at no charge. In addition, Home Theater Works explicitly labels all connections using a label printer.

Steve has been a guest on the Don Bosse Home Improvement Show on WTAG, 580AM. Steve made an appearance in September 2004 to speak about custom home theater planning and installation and expects to be a repeat guest in the near future.

Home Theater Works is not affiliated with any manufacturer of home theater equipment. Steve makes recommendations expressly based on the requirements of each custom home theater design. He will specify and purchase equipment for a slight fee or direct his customers to the lowest cost reliable websites in order to purchase their own equipment.

"Steve Dubos has been a big help to us in deciphering the foreign language of media today. He advised us on what equipment would best suit our needs, installed it and made it all work together with our existing audio/video equipment. We now have speakers throughout the house connected to our stereo and he ran cable wiring to all of our TV's. He has even been available "on call" when we can't figure out how to make all the remote controls work. I would definitely recommend Steve for all your audio/visual needs."

Frequently Asked Questions

Should people see you before buying equipment?
Yes, my experience allows for unseen problems to be solved before they occur.

Is there any theater job too small?
No, I won't drive an hour to set the clock on the VCR but anything within reason I should be able to help. Some clients have all the equipment they want but aren't thrilled with it. They can benefit from a HT tune up.

Do you do home automation?
Rarely, I bring someone else in for those projects.
